Product Description

Shown here in Old Growth Jarrah - other wood types available.

The Fontainebleau vessel is an exquisite handmade vase style urn which will hold a medium portion of cremation ashes. It is ideal if you are intending to scatter the ash remains or have them placed in a memorial location, but still wish to have some ashes kept in your home.

Each Fontainebleau vessel is a one off design due to the nature of the wood, no two vessels will be exactly alike however the image displayed above will give you a close idea of the final result.

The vessels are crafted by master woodturner Jack de Vos in his studio and are made from Jarrah, but when available Sheoak, Blackbutt, or Marri .

Jarrah is a species of eucalyptus tree. Jarrah's colour ranges from light red to dark red when cut and turns a rich reddish brown on exposure. Coarse-textured, with heavily interlocked grain, jarrah's availability is declining as Western Australia limits old-growth harvesting.

She-oak colour range is golden orange to red-orange to nearly burgundy. She-oak grows primarily in a small area on the south coast of Southwest Western Australia. Trees with a "lace" appearance are very rare- about 1 in 100 trees.

Blackbutt is a commonly grown hardwood that has attractive colouring from cream to pale brown, sometimes with a slight tinge of pink. Its grain is usually straight and texture its medium and even.

Wood from the Marri tree is incredibly hard and durable. The wood itself has a lustrous, golden glow and honey coloured hue with fascinating grain patterns. The natural colours of Marri exotic wood blanks are quite breathtaking and there is no need to stain the lumber. This creamy coloured, exotic wood with contrasting black gum veins and streaks has now become a highly sought after and fashionable lumber.

All pieces are mounted on a black plinth. The urn is bottom loading but still looks open at the top end.
