Sand & Gelatin urns are produced using sustainable materials to create an attractive and environmentally-friendly alternative for families. Each urn is hand painted by skilled artisans.

When placed in water, the Sand & Gelatin Urn is designed and engineered to float briefly before sinking. The time each urn takes to sink will vary depending on the weight of the cremated remains and local water conditions. Once placed in water the urn will break down within three days. Federal regulations must be followed when placing the urn at sea. (no closer than 3 nautical miles from shore). 

When buried the urn will biodegrade in three months.

Each urn is shipped in a box with custom protective packaging that provides families with a convenient and discreet option for transportation. Also included is a biodegradable plastic bag to place ashes in which will begin breaking down immediately when placed in water and in a short time after soil burial. The box (and urn) will pass through airport security screenings and can fit in the overhead compartment of most commercial airliners.

What Size Urn Do I Need?

Cremain quantities may vary due to differing techniques by crematoriums. Not all processes are identical and other factors may require allowances. If exact capacity of an urn is required we recommend you ask your crematorium or funeral director for precise information.

The capacity of a cremation urn relates more accurately to a loved one's height, sex, and age rather than body weight. The elderly and most children would need a smaller urn for ashes than a fully grown adult, regardless of their weight. There are exceptions such as varying cremation methods and some physical factors, but most adult's ashes will fit within an urn of 3.0 litre capacity or greater.
